Springtime brings the return of our neighbors – bears. Keep our neighborhood and our bear neighbors safe by not providing easy food access. Leave your trash containers inside until the morning of trash pick-up day. It’s a good idea to take your bird feeders in at night as well. La Plata County has an ordinance that fines residents at least $200 for not securing trash containers from wildlife. You can report trash can raids by bears to County Dispatch at 385-2900. Reporting incidents of trash being allowed to be accessed by bears is very important to make our area safe for both bears and people. Check out Colorado Parks and Wildlife for more resources and videos.
