Respect our Bears

Springtime brings the return of our neighbors – bears. Keep our neighborhood and our bear neighbors safe by not providing easy food access. Leave your trash containers inside until the morning of trash pick-up day. It’s a good idea to take your bird feeders in at night as well. La Plata County has an ordinance that fines residents at least $200 for not securing trash containers from wildlife. You can report trash can raids by bears to County Dispatch at 385-2900.  Reporting incidents of trash being allowed to be accessed by bears is very important to make our area safe for both bears and people.
