The District provides sewer collection and wastewater treatment services for residents. It co-owns the Wastewater Treatment Plant (WWTP) with Durango West 1. Located on the other side of Highway 160 toward Lake Durango subdivision, the WWTP consists of four lagoons and treatment facility. A solar array installed by LaPlata Energy, LLC in 2023 powers the plant.
In 2015, Durango West 2 and Durango West 1 entered into an Intergovernmental Agreement (IGA) which provides for joint ownership of the WWTP while continuing to maintain The District as the operator of the plant. Both subdivisions contribute to the wastewater fund through user fees. These provide for administration, operation, maintenance and repair as well as upgrades to the plant.
The District is not responsible for residential sewer lines and is not liable for sewer back-ups so residents are encouraged to check their homeowner insurance policy. It is also recommended to get a service such as RotoRooter to inspect your lines periodically.
