Hydrant Flushing and Water Pressure Update

Hydrant Flushing Friday April 17th and Water Pressure Update

Durango Fire & Rescue will be flushing a fire hydrant this afternoon on Pine Ridge Loop. During the flushing process sediment and other accumulated material that has built up in the pipe may move into the system. If you notice a change in your home, we recommend you flush the cold water for 5 minutes at a large flow device like an outside hydrant or tub faucet until water is clear.

Water Pressure Issues Update:

At its Wednesday night meeting, the board discussed at length the water issues residents have been reporting over the last several weeks.  Many residents reported low water pressure related to build-up on their whole house or fixture filters. So far, the district has only received reports from residents who have filters. While we are not clear what is causing these filters to become clogged so quickly, we are continuing to investigate.

Residents can help by contacting the district office directly with any water quality or pressure issues (if you have not already done so). Please include your name, address, what type of issue you are experiencing, whether you use a whole-house water filter or other filters, type(s) of filters and if available, filter size i.e. 50 micron.  We are mapping the reports to see if there are any commonalities including location.  If the district finds that flushing will help solve the issue, the mapping will allow us to target specific hydrants for flushing the main water lines.

We will provide a further update on the situation when available.
