Mosquitoes breed in standing water as small as a bottle cap, according to the Animas Mosquito Control District. So everyone needs to do their part in eliminating breeding grounds for mosquitoes by checking for standing water around your homes and getting rid of it. This small effort will help protect yourself, your family, and your neighbors from mosquito-borne diseases.

EPA recommends:

• Eliminate standing water in rain gutters, old tires, buckets, plastic covers, toys, tree holes, plastic covers or tarpaulins and or any other container where mosquitoes can breed.
• Empty and change the water in bird baths, fountains, pet bowls, wading pools, rain barrels, and potted plant trays/saucers at least once a week to destroy potential mosquito habitats.
