Clean Your Street Gutter
Help keep the water flowing properly down our street gutters by checking the gutters in front of your property. Leaves and needles get mixed at times with dirt/mud creating muck which all contribute to clogging the gutters in various places. Just take 5 minutes from time to time to clean up what is in front of your property including any muck, dirt, and pebbles that may have fallen into the gutters due to snowplowing, melting and runoff. This will ensure proper drainage as well as prevent damage to the adjoining asphalt. Thank you.
Water Maintenance and Repairs
March is a great time to check for leaks and do regular preventative maintenance on your faucets, toilets, water softeners, etc. This can end up saving you lots of water and money. Be a waterwise resident and save water by doing proper maintenance and conserve water by installing water efficient toilets, shower heads etc.
Home Wildfire Mitigation and Home Hardening
Durango Fire & Rescue recommends that when it comes to reducing wildfire risk to your home, small changes can have big impact. With fire season around the corner, consider checking off these simple home-hardening tasks:
- Remove all leaves, needles and other debris from all decks, roofs, and gutters.
- Screen attic, roof, eaves, and foundation vents with 1/8th-inch metal mesh.
- Screen or wall-in stilt foundations and decks with 1/8th-inch metal mesh.
- Mow grass and weeds to a height of 4 inches or less.
- Rake and remove pine needles and other flammable debris from a 5-foot radius around the foundation of your home and deck.
Looking for additional recommendations? Search the Colorado State Forest Service Home Ignition Zone or reach out to Durango Fire & Rescue to schedule a free in-person wildfire risk assessment with a firefighter. Also see below for links to Wildfire Adapted Partnership resources.
District Wildfire Mitigation
The district is working with Durango Fire and Rescue in their 2026 project to mitigate properties adjacent to Durango West 2. They hope to begin this project in April, depending on weather. Additionally, DW2 has $30,120 budgeted in 2026 for its continuous commitment to wildfire mitigation around the district. The greenbelt mitigation treatments are designed to reduce the intensity and spread rates of wildfire in and around the district. These treatments accomplish this by reducing fuel density and connectivity. These efforts are designed to work in combination with mitigation treatments on private properties that border the greenbelt. DF&R Wildfire Risk Reduction project map
Be a Good Neighbor - Clean Up after Your Dog
With the snows melting, dog poop and dog poop bags are appearing around the neighborhood. Please be respectful of district property and residents’ yards by always picking poop up after your dog(s) as well as your poop bags when you are on District roads, trails, greenbelts, and residents’ yards, and disposing of those bags properly. This helps to ensure that everyone can fully enjoy our subdivision and prevents pollution.
According to the Environmental Protection Agency, pet waste is one of the many seemingly small sources of pollution that can add up to big problems for water quality, and even human health. Read the story below for more information along with four reasons why it’s important to pick up your dog waste.
Fire Hydrants – Spring Access
If you have a fire hydrant on your property, please keep it accessible year-round. During the winter, we appreciate the assistance from homeowners who have hydrants on their property in keeping them clear from snow. During spring, remove shrubs, branches, etc that block visual and physical access.
HOA vs Special District
A metro district is a local government entity that provides public services and infrastructure to a community. A homeowner’s association (HOA) is a private organization that manages and enforces rules and regulations within a particular residential community. Durango West Metro District 2 is a special district within the state of Colorado. The district provides water, sewer collection and wastewater treatment services, and maintenance of roads and open space. It charges fees for these services. It is not an HOA and therefore does not manage or enforce covenants or perform other typical HOA functions.
Parking on Streets Prohibited
Durango West 2 Metro District prohibits parking on the street. Vehicles, trailers, etc., parked on the street present a safety hazard to our children and residents and greatly hinders snowplowing efforts.
There is no board meeting in March.
Next Board Meeting is: April 15th, 2026 at 5 p.m. at the Mail Building
