2026 Drinking Water Quality Report for Calendar Year 2025 Available
Durango West Metro District No. 2’s Annual Consumer Confidence Report (CCR) is now available on our website under the Services tab and at this direct URL: https://www.dgowest2.com/files/c7b61952b/CCR2026.pdf
The CCR is a thorough analysis required by State Health to ensure that customers have the opportunity to understand the quality of the water they are receiving. If you would like a copy emailed to you, please email the District Manager at dw2@dgowest2.com. For questions about the water quality analysis, please call our water operator Dave Marsa at 759-1609.
DW2 Community Garage Sale is Saturday, June 13th from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m.
This fun neighborhood event is this Saturday, June 13th. The district's role in this event is alerting residents, placing ads in the Durango Herald and a sign at the entrance.
Watering Restrictions - Conserve Water
Watering restrictions remain in effect as Lake Durango continues to fill but is still under the water capacity needed to remove restrictions. Read more and see Map for days and times you can water. Especially in times of drought, every gallon conserved benefits the entire community. The goal is not to use up a personal allocation, but rather to use only the water you truly need.
The District appreciates those residents who took steps to reduce outdoor watering this spring. As a community in Southwest Colorado, water conservation needs to be a way of life. Colorado Waterwise offers great tips for conserving water inside and outside.
Open Burning and Fireworks Restrictions
Durango West 2 has a policy that prohibits open burning within the subdivision. This policy (Resolution 2020-06) is especially important this year, as our area is currently experiencing D3 (Extreme) to D4 (Exceptional) drought conditions, according to the U.S. Drought Monitor. Fire danger is currently high. While small storms are appreciated, they do little to reduce overall wildfire risk.
The residential density of our community coupled with the dry vegetation and gusty wind conditions suggest using the utmost caution when grilling or cooking food outdoors and refraining from using burning units for outdoor recreation and/or heating. Although Resolution 2020-6 allows for small patio fires in specific designated devices, the district strongly discourage their use given current conditions.
Please note that the DW2 residents are additionally subject to all La Plata County fire restrictions. Stage 1 restrictions went into effect May 22nd. These include prohibitions on "using an explosive, including but not limited to fireworks, blasting caps, or any other incendiary device."
LPEA Upgrade Update
LPEA has been upgrading their system by replacing 50 year old cable and boxes in back of Aspen Court, Cedar Drive and over to the mail building. This forms the backbone of their system and should increase reliability. There are pieces in the subdivision that they haven't rebuilt yet but this is a major upgrade. LPEA hopes to complete this portion by the end of June/early July.
Trails - No Motorized Vehicles
Just a reminder that all motorized vehicles are prohibited on district trails including scooters, mini-bikes and e-bikes. The greenbelt is for all residents to enjoy and use so please be considerate of your neighbors and our neighbors that border the district. If you walk your dogs, it is your responsibility to clean up after them as well as to keep them on a leash or under control at all times. As some trails pass closely to homes, please be courteous and monitor your voices and keep your dogs on leash through these areas.
Road Projects June 22 to 26
Our road maintenance projects will take place June 22 to 26. Projects include sealcoating Michael Way; crackfilling, infrared patching and sealcoating Pine Ridge Loop; infrared patching throughout subdivision including some cul-de-sacs; and water testing on three washpans.
District Wildfire Mitigation Starts Mid-July
This year's District wildfire mitigation projects will begin mid July. These mitigation treatments are designed to reduce the intensity and spread rates of wildfire in and around the district by reducing fuel density and connectivity. Scroll to bottom story for details. Homeowners are responsible for their own mitigation. See our local Wildfire Adapted Partnership website for mitigation resources including a rebate for chipping as well as resources on Defensible Space and Home Ignition Zones.
District Partnership with Durango Fire on Wildfire Mitigation
Durango Fire and Rescue have completed a major section on the western part of the gulch mitigating 12 acres. They are continuing their 2026 project to mitigate large property owners' land adjacent to Durango West 2 which they believe will be done by September - accomplishing a fuel break perimeter on gulch side of DW2. See DF&R Wildfire Risk Reduction project map.
Landscape/Fencing Projects - Read DW2 Road Right of Way Policy
Many residents are preparing for summer projects such as landscaping, fencing or other. Along with obtaining locates via 811, residents are advised to be familiar with utility easements along the sides and back of their property as well as to read the Road Right of Way (ROW) policy to avoid issues.
Home Hardening Recommendations
Durango Fire & Rescue recommends the following small actions that can have a big impact in reducing wildfire risk to your home:
- Remove all leaves, needles and other debris from all decks, roofs, and gutters.
- Screen attic, roof, eaves, and foundation vents with 1/8th-inch metal mesh.
- Screen or wall-in stilt foundations and decks with 1/8th-inch metal mesh.
- Mow grass and weeds to a height of 4 inches or less.
- Rake and remove pine needles and other flammable debris from a 5-foot radius around the foundation of your home and deck.
The Next Board Meeting is June 17th at 5 p.m. at the Mail House. There is no May Board Meeting.
